Bookish (and not so Bookish) Thoughts #38

January 21, 2016 | 2 comments

1. I’ve been doing a several month long team reading challenge at goodreads. There’s only a few days left and my team is one of the two top teams. For the last few days, I’ve been obsessively checking the scoreboard every few hours. Who knew a simple reading challenge would bring out my competitive side?

2. I wouldn’t describe myself as competitive (I’m always the one saying “it is just for the fun of it”) but anyone who has ever gone bowling, played mini golf, clue, or watched eurovision with me would probably argue the opposite.

3. I’m so looking forward to Charlie Puth’s album Nine Track Mind which should be released at the end of the month. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for the last couple of days.

4. I’m debating starting up Project Life again. I miss scrapbooking, and now that I’m not working 80+ hours a week and obsessing over my dissertation 24/7, I might actually be able to complete a full year. There are a lot of things from last year I wish I had made spreads for, and I know there will be lots of big changes this year.

5. Talking about big changes, there is now officially 10 weeks until I move back to Sweden (being unemployed and broke). I used to think that getting a PhD was the hard part. Now I’m starting to realize that gradschool was easy, getting a job as a researcher is not.

6. Although one part of me is panicking about being unemployed, another part of me is really looking forward moving in with my sister and being back in Sweden for longer than a few weeks vacation.
