Organize This!

The Perfect Planner

I have been feeling very unorganized lately. I have a million things to do, the post-it notes are threatening a hostile take-over of the office, and I can’t even remember what day of the week it is (or which week it is for that matter).

Another clear sign that my mind is all over the place is that I’ve been having a lot more word-lapses this last week. Quite often, I cannot remember the English word for something. The solution is usually to call it the thing (or just use the Swedish word). After two years, Em has become quite the expert at deciphering what the thing currently is. And I’m getting quite good at explaining what the thing is used for. It’s like a never-ending game of Taboo. Only Em has to do all the guessing.

This last week, Em has (very frustrated) repeatedly uttered the phrase I can’t understand what you’re trying to say you if you don’t give me anything to go on at all. Apparently our setup doesn’t work if all I keep saying is the thing, the thing, you know the thing.

It’s like all the information in my brain is sorted into different drawers, and I keep opening the wrong one. Except, this week I have apparently lost the drawers. Or the drawers are looked and I don’t have the key.

Clearly, something needs to change.

So I ordered a new calendar.

I have often argued that a new calendar (or a list) is the solution to any kind of organization-related problem. I’m betting my money that it is solution to this one too.

To be fair, my old calendar wasn’t really working for me. In the last year, I’ve had three calendars and none of them have been the perfect one. When I’m unhappy with my calendar, I tend to not use it. Day planners don’t do much good if they are hidden in a drawer or buried under a pile of sticky notes.

This time, I didn’t just get any calendar. I got an Erin Condren life planner. It has gotten very good reviews (and some of my most trusted reviewers are avid fans of it so I’m thinking it’s going to be magical). I have wanted one for a long time. The only reason I haven’t bought one earlier is that they are quite expensive, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

The planner has been shipped. It should arrive any day now.

I won’t lie, I’m quite excited.
