Eurovision Win!

Sweden won!

Eurovision that is. Russia put up a fight, but even before all countries reported their points, it was clear that no other country could get enough points to beat Sweden.

It is possible that once it was obvious that it was gonna be between Sweden and Russia, some of the cheers for Sweden was cheers against Russia. ESC shouldn’t be about politics, but it is hard to avoid. I don’t care. I might be biased, but I think Sweden had the best song and the best performance.

We won with 365 points, Russia came second with 303 points, and Italy came third with 292. Sweden got 12 points from 11 countries, and 10 from 11 countries. More importantly, we got points from all other countries.

Sweden now hold the title for 2nd most Eurovision wins (6 times). Previusly we shared the title with the UK, France, and Luxembourg. Sweden is also the only country to have won twice in the 21st Century.

Here’s how our winning concept has evolved over the years:

1974 | Waterloo – ABBA

1984 | Diggiloo Diggiley – Herreys

1991 | Fångad av en stormvind – Carola

1999 | Take me to your heaven – Charlotte Nilsson

2012 | Euphoria – Loreen

2015 | Heroes – Måns Zelmerlöw

Carola’s win in 1991 is one of my favourite ESC memories, and Euphoria is still playing on my ipod quite often.

Did you watch the finale? Who do you think should have won? And which Swedish winner is your favourite?
