Pamela’s Whenever Bars

April 5, 2014 | 6 comments

I love granola bars. They are great afternoon snacks as well as an essential snack when hiking or doing field work. My favourite used to be Nature Valley but since they contain gluten, they are not an option anymore. I am now on a quest to find healthy, delicious tasting granola bars before next round of field work.

The first brand I’ve tried is Pamela’s Whenever Bars. They come in boxes of5 bars (at a cost of about $5) and there are 4 flavours to choose between:
1) Oat Blueberry Lemon
2) Oat Chocolate Chip Coconut
3) Oat Cranberry Almond
4) Oat Raisin Walnut Spice

In addition to the obvious ingredients they all contain organic agave, organic eggs, rice flour blend, almonds, safflower oil, baking soda, and coconut. Each bar is about 170-190 calories and contains 7-9 grams of fat and 2 grams of protein.

They all taste great (although I prefer the Blueberry Lemon and Chocolate Chip Coconut ones) but I think they are best suited as breakfast bars, rather than afternoon snacks. They also crumble a lot, so they are not that good for when you are hiking or doing field work.

Have you found any gluten free granola bars that you really like?
