Couch Potato

I have a confession. When it comes to tv, the CW channel is my guilty pleasure. Last night I finally saw the pilot of their newest show, Star-Crossed. I won’t lie, I’ve been waiting for this show since the first trailer aired last fall.

Star-Crossed is set in the year 2024 and aliens (the Atrians), who ten years earlier crash-landed on Earth, are being kept in a specific sector. Attempts are now made to integrate the Atrians, in the form of 7 teenagers, into human society, i.e. high school.

The two main characters, Emery and Roman, are portrayed by Aimee Teegarden (from Friday Night Lights) and Matt Lanter (from 90210). Emery’s father is one of the sector police, and Roman’s father is one of the Atrian leaders advocating for peace and understanding between the two populations.

First thing: everyone are beautiful – aliens, humans (even the ones about to die) – just like it always is in the CW universe.

Second thing: the Atrians all have weird tattoos. They are pretty cool. Hopefully there will be a point to these.

Third thing: It’s kind of Romeo and Juliet, but with aliens. I’m not saying that it is necessarily a bad thing.

Yes, the pilot episode had some less than spectacular moments. The special effects. The voice-over (but to be fair, voice-overs are hardly ever that good). But it also had some good moments. Young Roman is adorable, the plot is kind of intriguing (or as intriguing as anything from the CW can be). I really liked the music for the pilot (Civil Twilight, Alt-J, and an awesome cover of Aquarius just to mention a few).

I will definitely keep watching this show. Will you?
