Sunday Social is a linkup hosted by Neely and Ashley. This week’s questions are all about introducing yourself since it is a new year. It suits me very well since this is also my first time participating in Sunday Social.

1. What is the name of your blog? How long have you been blogging?
My blog is called marelden. It is a Swedish word forg “the sea-fire” or “the milky seas”. Although it is a cool example of bioluminescence (ocean water that uniformly glow eerie blue at night), the reason I picked it for my blog is that it is the title of one of my favourite songs (Mareld by Lars Winnerbäck). The lyrics are beautiful. One verse starts with “Rör mina händer, du måste förstå. Jag orkar inte förklara, försök och se det ändå” (meaning “Touch my hands, you need to understand. I can not explain, try and see it anyway”).

I started marelden in April last year, but I had been blogging on and off for over 10 years in other places. I’m hoping that this will be my permanent home.

2. Why do you blog?
Writing is one of the few ways I can sort out all the things going on inside my head. It is also a creative outlet that I desperately need.

3. What is the first blog you ever followed?
Heather L. Hunter’s blog This Fish Needs a Bicycle (playing off the awesome quote “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle” by Irina Dunn).

4. What is your favorite post you wrote in 2013?
Probably Dear Sister. I was upset about missing my sister’s birthday, and the fact that the presents I had mailed her wouldn’t make it to her in time. The evening before her birthday I wrote this letter to her and posted it on my blog (which she reads). She said it was the best birthday present she’s ever gotten.

5. What are your blogging goals for 2014?
Write more frequently.

6. Top 3 favorite blogs to follow?
Elise Blaha Cripe because she is just amazing and so inspiring.
Cathy Zielske becuse she is also just amazing and so inspiring.
Rachel because she is awesome and her posts never fails to make me smile.
And also Kerry because she is my favourite book blogger.
(I’m not very good at always following the rules.)
