The Classics Spin #4

November 16, 2013 | One comment

I recently made a list of 50 classics I want to read and review in the next 5 years. Making the list was the easy part. How do I decide which one of these slightly intimidating, often colossal lengths, non-easy reads to start with?

Lucky for me, the Classics Club provided the solution for me with the Classics Spin. Make a list of 20 books from your main list of Classics to read, and number then from 1-20, by Monday November 18. On that day, a random number will be announced, and you have to read the book on your list corresponding to that number, by January 1. Excellent timing if I may say so.

So here is my list:

FIVE BOOKS I’M DREADING/HESITANT TO READ
1. The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevesky
2. Moby Dick by Herman Melville
3. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
4. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
5. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

FIVE BOOKS I CAN’T WAIT TO READ
6. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
7. The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
8. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle
9. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
10. Aesop’s Fables by Aesop

FIVE BOOKS I’M NEUTRAL ABOUT
11. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare
12. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
13. The World According to Garp by John Irving
14. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
15. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

FIVE BOOKS I’VE READ BEFORE
16. Treasure Island by Robert Loius Stevenson
17. Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
18. Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Dafoe
19. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
20. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
