Bookish (and not so Bookish) Thoughts #53

1. Saturday was Eurovision Song Contest and it was held in Stockholm since we won last year. Eurovision is one of the biggest things in Sweden every year. We take it very serious (music in general is big in Sweden). In addition to Sweden, 7 other countries in the finale (Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Malta, and Georgia) competed with songs written by Swedes. Justin Timberlake also performed his new single Can’t Stop the Feeling, which by the way is produced by a Swede, Max Martin.

2. One of my favourite things about Eurovision is the interval act entertainment – which I think Sweden does the best! This year, the hosts (Petra Mede and last year’s winner Måns Zelmerlōv) did a number called “Love Love Peace Peace” showing all the components you need to become a Eurovision winner. Epic, just epic. Everything featured in the number have been part of a previous winner, including the violin player who is the singer who won for Norway in 2009.

3. If possible, I would have voted for the interval act. Ukraine ended up winning the Eurovision this year, but I thought Australia should have won.

4. I finally got a library card at the local library. I won’t lie, I’m pretty excited.

5. Something else that I’m very excited about is that I got the post-doc funding I applied for. I’m moving to Iceland in a month! I feel like I just started recovering from the panic of the last move, and now I’m doing it all over again.
