Top Ten Medical Dramas

May 3, 2016 | 4 comments

Just like crime novels are my go-to reading choice, medical dramas are my favourite type of tv shows. It might seem weird considering that in real life, I tend to avoid doctors and hospitals at all costs, but I guess I also tend to avoid police and murderers… My top ten favourite tv shows with doctors and paramedics are:

1. E.R. (NBC 1994-2009)
This series about the medical personnel and patients in the emergency room of County General Hospital In Chicago is a classic, and probably the show that got me hooked on medical dramas. I watched all 15 seasons, over and over again.

2. The Night Shift (NBC 2001-present)
Great show about the doctors and nurses working the night shift at the ER at San Antonio Medical Center. The third season should start airing soon.

3. Chicago Med (NBC 2015-present)
This new, and second, spin-off series of Chicago Fire focuses on the emergency department doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

4. House MD (FOX 2004-2012)
I loved the 8 seasons of this show about the brilliant, although slightly unconventional, Dr House and his team at Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey.

5. Saving Hope (CTV 2012-present)
This show, which is now in its 4th season, is set at the Hope Zion Hospital in Toronto and has a bit of a supernatural twist.

6. Three Rivers (CBS 2009-2010)
I wished this great show about a transplant team at Three Rivers Medical Center in Pittsburg had lasted more than one season.

7. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC 2005-present)
Another long-running show (currently in season 12) which focuses on the personel at Seattle Grace Hospital. I took a break after too many of my favourite characters left the series, so now I’m a few seasons behind.

8. Chicago Hope (CBS 1994-2000)
Together with ER, this show was one of the first medical dramas I followed religiously. It aired for 6 seasons, and focused on the medical staff at Chicago Hope Hospital.

9. Trauma (NBC 2009-2010)
This show, about a group of paramedics in San Francisco, is another series I wished had not been cancelled after the first season.

10. Code Black (CBS 2015-present)
This new show takes place in an overcrowded and understaffed emergency room of Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.

Which is your favorite medical drama show?
